SPMH STAFF DAY: A Day of Celebration, Recognition, and Fellowship
There are days in the life of an institution that stand apart from the ordinary — days that are not defined by patient numbers, clinical outcomes, or administrative targets, but by something quieter and equally important: the recognition of the people who make everything else possible.

On the afternoon of 20th February 2026, St. Paul's Mission Hospital paused from its daily rhythm to do something important — celebrate its people.
The inaugural Staff Family Day, held at the Hospital Hall from 3:30 PM, brought together staff from across all departments for an afternoon of recognition, entertainment, and shared fellowship. The event was jointly organised by the Editorial Team and the Quality Improvement Team, and the turnout was impressive — a clear sign that the initiative resonated with staff at every level.
The programme opened with a prayer by Rt. Rev. Fr. Philip Onunda, followed by a welcoming address from the Hospital Administrator, Sr. Beatrice Osanga, who set a warm tone for the afternoon. In her keynote remarks, she expressed deep gratitude to all members of staff for their dedication and commitment to the hospital's mission, acknowledging that the day was the hospital's way of saying thank you in a manner that went beyond words.
The entertainment segment proved to be the highlight of the afternoon. The prayer partner gift exchange — where staff presented gifts to their assigned prayer partners — drew the most energy from the room, with creative presentations that had everyone laughing and cheering.
The awards ceremony that followed was equally well received. Kefa David took home both the Best Staff Overall and Best Nursing Officer of the Year awards, while Mr. Jacob Ogolla was honoured for his long-term service to the hospital. The Pharmacy Department claimed the Best Department Overall award, receiving both a certificate and a trophy — a recognition that the Administrator noted was a healthy challenge to every other department to raise the bar.
The afternoon closed with a communal meal, giving staff a relaxed space to connect across department lines in a way that the usual working day rarely allows.
This was the first Staff Family Day in the hospital's recent history, and if the energy in that hall was anything to go by, it will not be the last. Events like this matter — not as a distraction from the work, but as a reminder of who we are doing it with, and why that matters.
